Urubamba

Where in the world is Urubamba?

Urubamba is a reasonably sized Andean market town, just over an hour away from Cusco. It is set in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and surrounded by beautiful mountains and breathtaking scenery. Most of the locals farm and there are a lot of markets and always opportunities to buy fresh produce.
It offers lots of opportunities on weekends off and holidays to explore the other beautiful towns and ruins in the valleys. There are opportunities for walking, hiking, camping, mountain biking, paragliding…and many more. There is something for everyone here.

What Can you Buy? You can get most of the things you will need in Urubamba. There are various chemists, restaurants and small shops, and lots of markets. You can find most of things in Urubamba…cheese, bread, vegetables, meat, chocolate, most common medications, shampoo etc However treats like marmite and the brands of chocolate we are used to are not available so you make sure you bring a good supply!

The Climate: The days are almost always hot and sunny, and the nights cold. From October to February, it is the rainy season, although there is normally only heavy rain in January. From March to May it is dry, hot during the day and cool at night. From May to September, its is winter and nights are very cold. Urubamba is 2800m above sea level in the Andes mountains, so the altitude means the sun is stronger and the nights colder.

NOTE: Remember you will be living in the Andes mountain range and there for the sun is stronger and the nights colder.
