Helpful hints for prospective
volunteers
Tips for Fund Raising
1. It’s always a good idea to
write an intro letter about the charity and what you hope to achieve
by volunteering with Kiya. This can then be sent to companies and handed
out at fund raising events.
2. Always offer monthly newsletters or updates to sponsors so they feel
a part of what they are supporting and know where their money is being
spent.
3. Talk to local papers (eg The Big Issue in the UK is great for support
and The Argus) and encourage them to write an article about what you
are doing, i.e. Local girl decides to put her talents to the test by
helping less privaleged children with special needs in Peru!
4. Encourage donations from businesses by promising an article re their
support on the website and publicity (if a local paper agrees to do
an article, mention those sponsoring you).
5. Always look people in the eye so they know you are sincere.
6. Have a basic script written and learnt so you can impress people
with your knowledge of the charity.
7. Smile!
People feel good when they give, it
makes them feel they are doing something positive and the feeling of
guilt about having a comfortable life whilst others are suffering is
eased. Help them by praising their generosity, explaining that even
a small donation of $10 helps a lot. At the end of the day, $10 is a
couple of drinks at the pub which most are happy to sacrifice now and
again!
So, GOOD LUCK and don’t be
afraid to ask, there is so much money wasted in this world, fund raising
is a great way to ensure that people get the chance to give to a real,
worthwhile and needy cause! Whatever happens, stay positive and remember
what a great thing you are doing and that all the hard work is worth
it!
