What We Do

Mama Cocha Children's Home

The new Mama Cocha was built and opened in 2008 with the help of Copenhagen International School and has been a huge success. It now has 7 children living in. We are still in the proccess of receiving 5 more children that need a home and are patiently going through all the paper work.

The home consists of 2 large dormitories, a lounge, kitchen, 2 bathrooms, a deposit area, large garden and playground, a small therapy room and classroom and we are currently building an extra bedroom and a quiet room.

The team at Mama Cocha consists of 2 live in carers, a speech therapist, a physiotherapist, a psychologist, 1 teacher, a social worker, a driver and night watchman and volunteers. They are all local professionals who are working unbelievably hard and making a huge difference to the childrens lives.

We run parents groups to improve self esteem, talks on hygiene, nutrition, violence in the home and much more. The centre is constantly improving and the community are slowly believing in us.

We also run an Early Stimulation program offering baby massage and early play sessions for children aged 0-3.

By the end of August 2008 we will have finished the building of our Early Bird Centre, next to Mama Cocha, offering more therapy and massage, theatre workshops and much more.

Although Mama Cocha is doing well we are still lacking funds to employ a music therapist and pay for much needed operations on many of the children. However, Mama Cocha is now well on its way and looking like it will have a positive future!
